Garage Door Maintenance

How to Maintain Your Garage Door

Regular garage door maintenance can keep your garage door functioning and looking as new as the day it was installed. However, if you have had your garage door for ten years or ten months, we still recommend maintaining it, as it will increase its lifespan. Maintaining your garage door might seem tedious and unnecessary, but it is essential for ensuring its longevity and functionality. Here are our top 4 ways to take care of your garage door:

1. Regular lubrication: The moving parts of your garage door, such as hinges, springs, and rollers, need to be lubricated regularly to prevent rust, corrosion, and wear and tear. If you hear wearing or strange noises when opening your garage door, it’s time to apply some lubricant. You can use a silicone-based lubricant or garage door lubricant.

2. Inspect and maintain your garage door: Inspect your garage door periodically for any signs of damage, such as cracks, dents, or broken parts. If you notice any broken parts, please get in contact with us as we can service or repair most garage doors. Repairing a garage door that is in generally good condition is considerably cheaper than replacement. In addition, we can conduct a full safety check and ensure all the parts are working correctly.

3. Check garage door opener: Ensure your electric fobs, sensors, pully systems, and rails work and function safely and as they should.

4. Wash your garage door: Keep your garage door clean by washing it with warm water. Avoid using harsh chemicals, as they can damage the finish of your door. Also, clean the tracks and rollers to ensure smooth movement. If you have cleaned any moving parts, such as springs or hinges, we recommend applying a small amount of lubricating oil to help prevent corrosion.

By following these tips, you can ensure that your garage door remains in top condition and serves you well for years. In addition, regular maintenance and care can go a long way in preventing costly repairs and replacements down the line.

Please note that we don’t recommend that you try to do any complex repairs yourself, as this could result in injury and make matters worse. Instead, please speak with a garage door professional such as ourselves for replacement springs, hinges, and rollers, or if your door looks unsafe and not aligned correctly.
